Nakuru Expands Vocational Training (VTC) in Elburgon – Njoro

On 15th July 2024, President William Ruto in collaboration with the county government of Nakuru officially launched the Njoro Vocational Training Institute in Elburgon, Nakuru County.

The President was accompanied by Deputy President H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH Governor Susan Kihika , Njoro mp Hon Charity Kathambi Chepkwony, MPs and MCAs.

Njoro TTI, a public technical school accredited by TVETA, started in January 2023 with its first group of students. It is being guided by the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology and is set to become a Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Engineering, with the government providing the necessary equipment and infrastructure.

Not only is the new vocational training center the largest tertiary institution in the area but it also plans to provide quality education and practical skills to young Kenyans, enhancing their employability in different professions.

This pivotal development underscores the Kenyan government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and addressing the skills gap through collaborative efforts with the County Government of Nakuru.

The Need for Vocational Training in Nakuru

Nakuru County, like any other rapidly growing region in Kenya, faces a pressing need for skilled labor to drive its economic development.

National Government Collaborates with Nakuru County Government

During the launch ceremony, President William Ruto emphasized the importance of vocational education in fostering economic growth and self-reliance among the youth. He stated:

“The opening of the Njoro Vocational Training Institute is a significant milestone in our efforts to equip our young people with the skills they need to thrive in today’s competitive job market. By investing in vocational training, we are investing in the future of Kenya.” –President Ruto

Governor Susan Kihika of Nakuru County also praised the initiative, highlighting its potential impact on the local community:

The establishment of the Njoro Vocational Training Institute is expected to have a positive ripple effect on the community.
